Stages of Addiction
Stages of Addiction explores the emotional progression of addiction,
beginning in moments of pleasure and escape before gradually descending into isolation and sadness. Through layered expressions and fragmented faces, the piece captures the shifting emotional states that can exist within a single experience.
At the center of the work is one solitary glass, symbolizing how addiction often begins with a single choice. As the composition unfolds, repeated faces and visual echoes illustrate the increasing weight and repetition of dependency, revealing the emotional and psychological transformation over time.
Completed in one continuous session, the work carries an immediacy that mirrors the chaos, vulnerability, and emotional complexity behind the subject matter.
Painted in acrylic on canvas, this original 16x20 artwork is both reflective and confrontational, inviting viewers to consider the fragile line between celebration, escape, and loss.
